Prairie Band Casino & Resort has teamed up with the Great American barbeque to host our first annual barbeque contest, with $10,000 in awards and prizes.  This is a KCBS, (Kansas City Barbeque Society) sanction event.  Despite the "Kansas City" name, the KCBS judge barbeque contest all over the country and judge all styles of barbeque, which are broken down into classes for pork ribs, brisket, pork, and chicken, and an optional People's Choice Award.  Competitions are judged based on taste, tenderness, and appearance of the meat, with taste being worth about half of the overall score.  The Grand Champion will receive $2500, a trophy, an invitation to the Jack Daniels Invitational 2011.
The competion is not limited to professional barbeque teams, though many do compete.  Amateur competitors with home-built equipment can be just as competive.  The competion will start Friday with check-in.  Judging begins around noon on Saturday.  Competitors may sleep on site so they can tend their fires, often staying up in shifts to keep a constant watch on their smoker.

Entry Fees:  $190.  Includes: 20' x 25' team space, entry into all meat categories, t-shirt, 1 commemorative pin and 12 wristbands.  Larger spaces and electrical hook-ups and People's Choice entres are available for an extra charge.
