Take part in the fun with a fast-paced game of 21. This very popular card game is enjoyed worldwide and has been played for generations. The object is for your hand to be closer to 21, without going over, than the dealers. There are several variations of the game of Blackjack and some rules on each game type will vary based on which type of game you are playing and any "side bet" opportunities that may exist. Be sure to check with your dealer for specific rules on each type of blackjack game that you try!
Blackjack Basic Rules
Each Player including the dealer receives two cards. The dealer will show one card face up "the up card" and one face down "the hold card". The Ace counts as 1 or 11 and all face cards (King, Queen and Jack) count as 10 each; all other cards count as their face value.
An Ace with any 10-value card is a Blackjack. The Dealer will pay you more for a Blackjack, unless the Dealer also has a Blackjack; in this case, you "push" and neither win nor lose.
If the dealer has an Ace showing, you can purchase "insurance" for an amount up to 1/2 your original bet. If the dealer had a Blackjack, your hand will lose, but the insurance bet will be paid 2 to 1. If the dealer does not have a Blackjack, the insurance bet loses and the hand continues.
If you do have a blackjack, you can ask the Dealer to "hit" your hand by using a scratching motion with your fingers on the table or you can also elect to "double down". If you choose to "double down", you must place an additional wager up to the amount of the original bet. A pair of like cards may be "split" to make two hands with a wager equal to your original bet. Each variety of Blackjack will have different rules involving "double down" and "split" so be sure to check with your dealer. During play, you may request a "hit" as many times as you like, but, if you go over 21, you "bust" and lose the hand. If you do not want to "hit", you may "stand" by making a lateral waving motion over the table. After all Players are satisfied with their hand, the dealer will expose their "hole card" and stand or draw to finish the hand. The Dealer must draw on "soft" 17 and below and will continue to draw until their hand reaches a hard 17 or higher. A "soft" hand contains a combination of cards which include an Ace and has two possible numerical values, i.e., Ace and 6 - 7 or 17.
